Tennis was first played at the Games of the I Olympiad in Athens in
1896.
It was offered until the VIII Olympiad in Paris in 1924,
when policy disputes with organizing bodies forced tennis to
be removed.
Tennis returned to the Olympics as a demonstration
sport in 1968 and later in 1984.
Tennis was re-instituted permanently as
a competitive medal event at the XXIV Olympiad in Seoul in 1988.
